A large portion of cybersecurity is about balancing business efficiency and protection. A competition exists on your IT equipment as well, for computer resources like memory, between programs protecting your business, and business operations programs. Let's explore this, and also start looking at why efficiency of ransomware-specific tools (or tools claiming to be) is absolutely so important.
This article helps explain to folks how and why attackers were able to evade "the latest and greatest" security out there. The timing seemed appropriate for this Cyber Crucible, Inc. blog post given the exposed SolarWinds (etc) attacks.
Here is Part 4 of our explanation of file corruption during and after ransomware attacks - Putting It All Together. Do you think having a stronger security program increases or decreases the chance of having file corruption? Find out! (and how to remove the issue altogether...)
File corruption appears in a ton of ransomware engagements. We saw in Part 2 that sometimes it is the criminals' job. Sometimes, though, it is actually the fault of the good guys, and with the best intentions at heart. It is critical to identify the causes beforehand. An ounce of prevention goes a long way!
Here is part 2 (a fan favorite) discussing file corruption during ransomware attacks - when there is a ransomware attack, and you can blame the criminal for the file corruption!
Let's re-introduce a topic that we see in every ransomware engagement - file corruption. It is important to know how and why that occurs, but the reasons can be complex (and non-technical). Too much for casual reading in 5 minutes!
I've been given this advice on multiple occasions in my career, and now find myself passing it on to younger engineers from time to time. There is no time to pay attention to complacency, negativity from ourselves, nor negativity from others, because we are too busy tackling something new! Always be a noob!
